Where complex commercial crimes are committed by the senior management of the corporations, it is also found that these persons tend to seek assistance from people with accounting and finance background to facilitate the commission of these commercial crimes.
As part of CAD's community outreach programme, Corporate Fraud Division conducted a presentation to the final year Accountancy & Business Undergraduates of the Nanyang Business School on 24 January 2007 to feature some corporate fraud cases investigated by CAD and the learning points in these cases. Through the presentation CAD hoped that these aspiring accountants could better appreciate the significant role they play in corporate governance and the importance for corporate ethics and integrity. The outreach was also meant to instill in them the mindset that no one is beyond the long arm of the law, and they should not throw their bright futures away in a moment of folly by abetting the commission of a criminal offence.
About 300 final year accounting students of the Nanyang Technological University attended this outreach titled "Your Professional Journey Ahead", as part of their Assurance and Attestation module. The outreach was well-received by the accounting students. More than 91% of them feedback that the outreach met its stated objectives while about 90% of them said that the presentation was well-structured. The Corporate Fraud Division targets to reach out to more aspiring accounting students from the Singapore Management University in the coming year.
