CanĀ An Undischarged Bankrupt Leave Singapore?

It is an offence under the Bankruptcy Act for an undischarged bankrupt to leave, remain or reside outside Singapore without the prior permission of the Official Assignee. He would have committed an offence under section 131(b) of the Bankruptcy Act. On conviction, he is liable to a fine up to $10,000 or an imprisonment term not exceeding 2 years; or both.

The public can ascertain the bankruptcy status of individuals using the Insolvency Search at www.isis.gov.sg upon payment of a fee. The Insolvency Search provides key information on individuals who have been adjudged insolvent by the Court.

If you suspect that an undischarged bankrupt has committed the above offence, you can write in to the Official Assignee on the matter for their investigation. The Official Assignee may be contacted at the following address:
