The Strait Times, Cheat Jailed After Being On The Run For 5 Years

A MAN who had been on the run since 2002 for abetting others to cheat a credit card centre was jailed for 11/2 years yesterday.  Marcus Ang, 39, admitted to conspiring with Loh Boon Pin, Puan Yi Hong and some others who are unknown, in November 2002 to cheat the United Overseas Bank (UOB) Card Centre of $20,000.  Loh, 43, owner of Thermal Guard Automobile at Lorong L Telok Kurau, and his cousin, Puan, 36, were dealt with in 2003.  The court heard that Puan approached Ang, who had previous convictions for cheating and property-related offences, to ask if he knew of anyone with fake credit cards.  After asking his Malaysian friends, Ang replied in the affirmative.  Puan then told him that a shop owner wanted to use counterfeit credit cards.  Ang then agreed to meet Loh.  During a discussion, it was agreed that Ang would send two of his syndicate members to Loh's shop on the pretext of making enquiries to buy window film for export.
