The Straits Times, Case File: Man Charged With Cheating

A MAN was charged with cheating a woman of $2,900 in 2004, by claiming he could help her settle her alleged involvement in a harbouring offence.

Logan Palani Manickam, 39, a debt collector, allegedly deceived Madam Shaik Dawoodh Jahubar Nizha, 40, into believing he had sought the help of an immigration officer to assist in her case. Logan induced her to give him the amount in three payments between August and November that year.

He is also accused of deceiving her into believing he needed her to sign a deed of commitment to supply foreign workers.

He lied that he could not do it because he was an immigration officer.

Logan is out on $10,000 bail and a pre-trial conference will be held on April 16.
