The Straits Times (31 May 08), Man Who Faked Death Jailed For Three Years      

When Gandaruban Subramaniam fled Singapore more than 20 years ago to escape his creditors, he first landed in London.  There, he found work as a sweeper but the cold winters drove him on to Sri Lanka, where he remained. He returned to Singapore every now and then, using a false identity each time.   The law eventually caught up with him last October when he tried once more to enter Singapore using a fake identity.  Yesterday, the 60-year-old was told he would spend the next three years behind bars for faking his death to collect insurance payouts totalling $331,341.
