SINGAPORE – Former National Kidney Foundation (NKF) chairman Richard Yong and his wife were arrested in Hong Kong yesterday - just two months after the couple fled Singapore. Yong, who faced demands to repay the charity a substantial sum, had slipped out of the country on May 17, just a day after he was declared bankrupt. When contacted by BT, Singapore's Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) said the Hong Kong Department of Justice had confirmed that Yong had been arrested by the Hong Kong authorities yesterday morning following Singapore's request. 'Yong's case will be brought up in a Hong Kong court (this) morning,' the CAD statement to BT said. 'Singapore will be working with the Hong Kong authorities to initiate extradition proceedings for the return of Richard Yong,' it added. CAD said the Hong Kong police had informed them that Yong's wife, On Shu Kio, had also been arrested.
