The Straits Times, Scam : Nigerian Jailed For Bid To Dupe Woman

YOUR £1 million (S$3 million) lottery prize is already at Singapore airport Customs, ma'am. But you need to first fork out...  With this variation of the familiar signature line of the so-called 'Nigerian scam', a Nigerian tried to dupe a Singapore businesswoman into parting with $13,260.  Yesterday, Don Raymond Faluyi, 40, was jailed for one year and nine months after he admitted attempting to deceive Ms Chan Wei Sum, 42, at the Grand Hyatt in Scotts Road on July 9.  The court heard that the scam began in March, when Ms Chan was told she had won the £1 million.  She then paid a total of $150,000 - on 20 occasions - to an address in Britain, purported to enable her 'winnings' to be sent to her.
