Earlier this year, Police received reports from a motor insurer alleging that some motor workshops in Singapore had submitted fraudulent insurance claims. Acting on the reports, the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) worked closely with the motor insurer and uncovered several suspected cases of inflated claims that were made against the motor insurer.
On 9 April 03, Police arrested two managing partners of separate workshops, a 42-year old male Singaporean and a 38-year old male Malaysian for making inflated claims against the motor insurer. The Singaporean suspect will be charged in court on 3 Oct 03 for 19 counts of cheating and 6 counts of attempted cheating while the Malaysian suspect be charged in court on the same day for 3 counts of cheating and 2 counts of attempted cheating. Anyone found guilty of cheating faces a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
Police take a very stern view of such cases and will not hesitate to prosecute anyone if there is evidence of fraud. Police will not let up on our ongoing efforts in taking such unscrupulous workshops to task.
